Equipment Failure Avoided! 480V Bus Failure

Equipment malfunction can cost customers thousands of dollars in damages and lost productivity. A customer in southern CT had contacted New England Power Quality regarding persistent HVAC equipment malfunctions. A power quality study was initiated and during the onsite inspection our state the art FLUKE Infrared viewer picked up a few sections of "hot" 480 Volt bus in the electrical switchgear room. The 20 Deg F temperature rise indicates that the bus plates have come loose and are in need of an emergency repair.

The bus work was inspected 4 months earlier as a part of the annual IR inspection by an insurance contractor who missed these large issues!
